Sofa Beds With Storage: Where Does the Bedding Go?

In an apartment with limited closets, a sleeper couch with storage sounds like the complete solution. Yet some couches store bedding inside the fold-out seats, while others need a separate storage module. That difference matters every time guests arrive.

Short answer: On Cozey Neptune, every sleeper seat contains a storage compartment. On Orian and Atmosphere, sleeper seats do not contain storage; you add compatible storage seats, corners or ottomans. This distinction affects how much bedding you can keep nearby—and whether you must allocate an extra module to it.

A listing that says “hidden storage options” may describe an optional nearby module, not the folding sleeper seat itself. Always examine the configuration rather than assuming the headline applies to every seat.

Storage schematic: Neptune integrates storage into sleeper seats; Orian and Atmosphere use separate storage modules. Not to scale.

Neptune: storage built into the sleeper seats

A typical Neptune seat compartment is approximately 59 × 58 × 14 cm (about 23.2 × 22.8 × 5.5 in internally). That is roughly 48 litres by simple rectangular volume; real packing capacity depends on the interior shape and contents. A compatible Neptune storage ottoman holds approximately 40 litres.

The practical advantage is not just capacity. Bedding and pillows can remain inside the compartment while the sleeper opens and closes. Cozey's founder has also confirmed that storage can be accessed with the sleeper fully deployed: move the folded backrest section resting over the seat area to reach the compartment. You do not need to fold the entire bed back into sofa mode.

That is particularly convenient if overnight guests need something after lights-out, or if the sofa is in a room without a separate linen cupboard.

Orian: more storage choices, but separate from the sleeper

Orian's folding sleeper seats have no internal compartment. Storage is available in compatible non-sleeper pieces. Existing product reference specifications list approximately 90 L for a storage seat, 100 L for a storage corner and 80 L for a storage ottoman; verify the live module configuration before using a capacity to size a purchase.

For example, a two-seat Orian Queen sleeper creates sleeping space using its two sleeper seats, but you would add a compatible storage ottoman or other storage module if bedding needs to live inside the furniture. Its storage remains accessible when the adjacent sleeper is extended.

This gives you more freedom to place storage where it is useful—but it can also add footprint or cost compared with a sleeper with storage inside the same seats.

Atmosphere: choose the function of each seat

Atmosphere's Regular, Storage and Sleeper seat types do different jobs. A Storage seat has an internal compartment; a Sleeper seat opens into a sleeping surface and does not include storage. In the reference configuration, an Atmosphere Storage seat offers approximately 79.4 L of storage.

The design advantage is modular choice. If your ideal everyday layout includes both a sleeper and a storage module, you can configure them together where compatible. However, do not describe a sofa made only of Atmosphere Sleeper seats as having built-in sleeper-seat storage.

What will actually fit?

These are packing examples, not guaranteed fit tests. Before deciding whether the compartment holds a particular item, compare its folded dimensions to the compartment opening and internal height—not just a litre figure.

What will actually fit?

Bedding itemFit consideration
Folded fitted and flat sheetsUsually flexible and compact, but check how high the stack becomes
PillowcasesOften easy to fold into smaller pockets
Regular pillowsBulky; size and compressibility matter more than total litres
Comforter or duvetSeasonal fill and fold size make a large difference

An oversized pillow might not fit through a shallow Neptune compartment opening even if its calculated volume looks sufficient. Conversely, neatly folded sheets may occupy little space. Do not compress bedding into the moving joints of any sleeper mechanism.

How to store bedding between guests

Store bedding clean and fully dry, preferably folded in a breathable storage bag where appropriate. Cozey has not identified a special moisture or ventilation issue associated with storing bedding in Neptune or Orian compartments. Nevertheless, if bedding has been sitting unused for several weeks or months, air it out and wash it before guests arrive.

For frequent visitors, keep a fitted sheet and topper together so the sofa can be prepared quickly. Remember that the topper and sheets placed on the opened bed must be removed before you fold the sleeper away, even though the items inside Neptune's compartment can remain during conversion.

Storage in a US studio

A studio with little closet space may benefit from Neptune’s storage inside sleeper seats: the bedding stays next to the bed without another storage cabinet. If choosing Orian for its compact closed width and Queen-sized guest surface, remember that any separate storage ottoman needs floor space too. Test what fits by folded item dimensions rather than assuming a given litre capacity guarantees a bulky pillow will fit.

The bottom line

For storage inside a sleeper seat, Neptune is the standout Cozey option. For customers who prefer separate storage modules and different sleep layouts, Orian and Atmosphere provide flexible alternatives. Choose based on what needs to fit, how often you access it and the exact configuration footprint.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, provided the contents fit properly inside the compartment. You do not need to empty it before opening or closing the mechanism.

Yes, compatible dedicated storage modules remain accessible when sleeper sections are deployed.

No. Orian sleeper seats have no storage. You must choose designated storage modules.

No. The compartment opening, depth, location and how you access it matter as much as total volume.

US note: Store bedding near the sleeper only if it can be retrieved safely in the fully opened configuration.

A typical Neptune seat compartment is approximately 59 × 58 × 14 cm (about 23.2 × 22.8 × 5.5 in) internally, which is roughly 48 litres by simple rectangular volume, and a compatible Neptune storage ottoman holds approximately 40 litres. Real packing capacity depends on the interior shape and contents, so compare the opening and depth with what you want to store.
