A sleeper sofa needs to fit your room in two configurations: as a sofa during the day and as a bed at night. Once you've confirmed that both configurations fit, the decision comes down to how you prefer to sit, how you prefer to sleep, and which practical features matter most to you.
At Cozey, we've designed three different modular sleeper collections because we know there isn't one perfect sofa bed for every home.
- Neptune is best for customers who prefer firm, upright seating, a taller backrest, and generous built-in storage.
- Orian is best for customers looking for a modern sofa that offers more sleeping space with fewer modules.
- Atmosphere Sleeper is best for customers who prefer relaxed seating, a softer sleeping surface, and maximum flexibility in their sofa's dimensions, design, and upholstery.
All three are modular, convert without tools, offer washable cushion covers, and are designed to provide comfortable everyday seating and occasional or extended guest sleeping. But they achieve those goals in different ways. Here's how to choose the right one for your home.

Our recommendation is to begin with the dimensions of your room, then work through the remaining differences.
Which Cozey Sleeper Sofa Is Best for Your Space?
This is the most important factor in choosing a sleeper sofa. A sofa might fit beautifully against your living room wall, but that doesn't necessarily mean you'll have enough room to unfold it into a bed.
We recommend measuring three things before purchasing:
- Available width: How much wall or floor space can the sofa occupy?
- Available depth: How far can the bed extend into the room when opened?
- Clearance: Will you still have sufficient space to move around furniture, doors, and walkways?
Importantly, the smallest sofa when closed isn't necessarily the smallest sleeper when opened.
Comparing Fully Extended Dimensions
The following table illustrates how different Cozey configurations use space.
| Collection | Configuration | Sofa width | Fully extended depth |
|---|---|---|---|
| Orian | 2-seater, queen-size bed | 72.75" | 79.75" |
| Neptune | 3-seater, full-size bed | 89.8" | 61.4" |
| Neptune | 2-seater + ottomans, full-size bed | 64.6" (sofa only) | 79.9" |
| Atmosphere Sleeper | 3-seater, rounded arms | 106.75" | 68" |
| Atmosphere Sleeper | 2-seater + ottoman, rounded arms | 77.25" (sofa only) | 97.3" |
These are representative configurations. Widths for ottoman-based configurations refer to the sofa itself. Additional space may be required for the ottomans, movement, and access. Always confirm the exact dimensions of your selected modules. If you'd like help confirming measurements for your room, you can book a free design consultation.
These measurements reveal some important differences.
Orian: The Most Efficient Queen-Size Sleeping Configuration
Orian is particularly effective for customers who want a queen-size bed without sacrificing too much living room space. Its two-seater measures just 72.75 inches wide and converts into a queen-size sleeping surface. When fully extended, its depth is approximately 79.75 inches. No separate ottoman is required to complete the sleeping surface.
This makes Orian one of our strongest recommendations for small apartments, guest rooms, and multipurpose spaces. The main consideration is that you'll need sufficient space in front of the sofa to accommodate the extended bed.
Neptune: An Excellent Choice for Wide but Shallow Rooms
Neptune's three-seater measures 89.8 inches wide, making it wider than Orian's two-seater. However, when converted into a full-size bed, it extends just 61.4 inches from the back of the sofa. That's substantially less depth than Orian's queen-size configuration.
Why? Because Neptune's three-seater creates a sleeping surface in an east–west orientation: you're lying across the width of the sofa rather than extending far out into the room. For customers with a relatively wide living room but limited space between their sofa and coffee table, Neptune can be a particularly efficient choice.
Neptune also offers an alternative two-seater configuration. Its two-seater measures approximately 64.6 inches wide, and customers can add two storage ottomans to create a full-size sleeping surface in a north–south orientation. That reduces the sofa's daytime width but increases the fully extended depth to 79.9 inches.
Atmosphere Sleeper: The Most Adaptable to Different Room Shapes
Atmosphere Sleeper is generally the widest of our three collections in comparable standard configurations. But that doesn't tell the whole story. Atmosphere is also our most customizable sleeper sofa when it comes to the physical dimensions of the furniture.
Unlike Neptune and Orian, Atmosphere can be configured with:
- Two arms.
- One arm.
- No arms.
- Different armrest styles with varying widths.
- Different backrest styles that affect the sofa's appearance and depth.
- Multiple modular arrangements to suit different room layouts.
Removing an arm or choosing a narrower armrest can make a meaningful difference in a small apartment. For example, an Atmosphere three-seater measures approximately 106.75 inches with rounded arms, compared with 110.6 inches in another arm configuration. An armless configuration can reduce the overall width further.
Atmosphere also offers different sleeping orientations.
Atmosphere Three-Seater: East–West Sleeping
The three-seater creates a sleeping surface across the width of the sofa, with a fully extended depth of approximately 68 inches. We generally recommend this arrangement for wider rooms with limited front-to-back space.
Atmosphere Two-Seater + Ottoman: North–South Sleeping
The two-seater with an ottoman creates a lengthwise sleeping surface extending toward the front of the room. Its fully extended depth is approximately 97.3 inches. This can be more suitable for a narrower room with greater available depth.
Is Atmosphere Better With or Without Arms?
There's an important trade-off. Atmosphere's cushions are secured using Velcro connections, and the sofa's arms help keep them aligned. Removing the arms gives customers greater flexibility and can save valuable space. However, cushions may shift slightly more during everyday use.
Neptune and Orian use more structured steel conversion mechanisms, helping keep their sleeper components firmly positioned.
Our recommendation is to select Atmosphere's arm configuration based on both available space and personal preference. If your room allows it, arms provide additional cushion containment. If maximizing width is more important, a one-arm or armless layout may be worth that trade-off.
Our space recommendation: Choose Orian for a compact queen-size bed, Neptune for a relatively shallow three-seat sleeping footprint, and Atmosphere when customizing the sofa's dimensions and orientation is your priority.
Which Cozey Sleeper Sofa Is the Most Comfortable for Sitting?
Once you've established which configurations fit your room, everyday seating comfort should be your next consideration. Most sleeper sofas spend considerably more time functioning as sofas than as beds. If you'll sit on yours every day but only use it for sleeping occasionally, choose the seating experience you genuinely prefer.
Neptune: Best for Upright, Supportive Seating
Neptune offers the firmest and most upright seating experience of our sleeper collections. Its seat is the shallowest of the three, although still relatively deep compared with many conventional sofas. Its taller backrest provides additional support for people who prefer sitting upright rather than reclining deeply.
Customers can also add optional headrests. We include a complimentary lumbar pillow with every Neptune seat to improve lower-back comfort. Neptune is particularly well suited for customers who prefer structured seating while reading, working, or watching television.
Orian: Best for a Firm Seat With a Soft Backrest
Orian provides a different balance. Its seat is firm, but its loose, fiber-filled back cushions offer a softer experience when leaning back. The sofa is deeper and lower than Neptune, creating a more relaxed sitting position.
Orian is a great choice for people who enjoy a supportive seat but don't want a particularly firm backrest. Its modern, low-profile appearance also works well in contemporary interiors. The trade-off is that it doesn't provide Neptune's taller backrest or optional headrests.
Atmosphere Sleeper: Best for Balanced Comfort and Lounging
Atmosphere Sleeper offers a medium-firm seating experience with a relaxed, comfortable feel. We've engineered the sleeper components to preserve the familiar seating comfort of our regular Atmosphere collection. This means customers can combine compatible seating and sleeper functionality while maintaining a cohesive everyday comfort experience.
Atmosphere has deep seating and a higher seat height than Orian, although both have lower-profile backrests than Neptune. For customers who prioritize lounging, flexible seating arrangements, and a softer overall feel, Atmosphere is a compelling option.
Our comfort recommendation: Neptune for upright support, Orian for firm seating with softer back cushions, and Atmosphere for relaxed, balanced lounging.
Which Cozey Sleeper Sofa Is Most Comfortable for Sleeping?
All three collections are developed and tested by our team in Montreal, with particular attention to foam construction, sleeping consistency, and ease of conversion. However, their sleeping experiences differ.
Neptune and Orian: Firmer Sleeping Surfaces
Neptune and Orian both use approximately five inches of layered foam in their sleeping surfaces. Although their everyday seating comfort differs, their sleeping firmness is very similar. Both offer a relatively firm, supportive sleeping experience.
We design their unfolded seats and backrests to create a consistent sleeping surface, with foam cushioning at the transitions between modules. This helps prevent sleepers from feeling prominent hard frame edges where the sections meet.
Atmosphere Sleeper: Softer, Thicker Cushioning
Atmosphere Sleeper uses approximately eight inches of foam, creating a softer sleeping surface. Its thicker foam construction reduces the influence of the frame and underlying support components, allowing for a more pronounced sink-in feel.
Customers who prefer a plush sleeping surface may prefer Atmosphere. Those who enjoy firmer support may prefer Neptune or Orian. Neither approach is universally more comfortable. It depends on how you like to sleep.
What About the Gaps Between Cushions?
All three collections are engineered to minimize the feeling of gaps between modular sections. Their foam construction helps create a more continuous sleeping surface, although some people may still notice the intersections.
For additional comfort, we recommend the Cozey Sleep Kit. It includes a fitted mattress protector that adds cushioning and helps conceal the gaps, along with a fitted sheet, flat sheet, two pillows, two pillowcases, and a comforter. The Sleep Kit is particularly helpful for Atmosphere, whose sleeping dimensions can differ from standard mattress sizes.
Which Cozey Sleeper Is Easiest to Convert?
All three collections are designed for one-person, tool-free conversion.
Neptune: Approximately 20 Seconds per Seat
Lift and pull the seat forward. Supporting legs unfold automatically, and the backrest pulls forward to complete the bed.
Orian: Approximately 20 Seconds per Seat
Pull the fabric lever behind the sleeper seat. The seat unfolds, the legs deploy, and the backrest folds forward.
Atmosphere Sleeper: Approximately 10 Seconds per Seat
Release the Velcro-secured sleeper sections and unfold them onto the floor. The sleeping surface rests directly on the floor rather than on elevated legs.
Atmosphere is the quickest to convert, while Neptune and Orian provide a more conventional elevated sleeping surface. For older guests or anyone who finds it difficult to get up from a low sleeping position, we'd generally recommend Neptune or Orian.
Which Cozey Sleeper Sofa Has the Best Storage?
Storage is one of Neptune's biggest advantages.
Neptune: Storage in Every Seat
Every Neptune seat includes integrated storage. A three-seater, or a two-seater with storage ottomans, can accommodate the entire Cozey Sleep Kit, including the mattress protector, sheets, pillows, and comforter. That means customers can keep everything needed for overnight guests directly inside the sofa. This is especially practical for smaller homes where closet space is limited.
Orian: Optional Storage Modules
Orian also offers storage, but its sleeper seats don't contain storage compartments. Customers can add dedicated storage seats or storage ottomans to their configuration. This provides flexibility, although storage capacity depends on the modules selected.
Atmosphere Sleeper: No Integrated Sleeper Storage
Atmosphere Sleeper doesn't include storage within its sleeper modules. Customers who need dedicated bedding storage should plan for another furniture piece or storage area.
Our storage recommendation: Neptune is the clear choice when keeping bedding inside the sofa is a priority.
Which Sleeper Sofa Has the Most Washable and Customizable Covers?
All three Cozey sleeper collections offer removable, machine-washable seat and back cushion covers. This is particularly valuable for sleeper sofas, which may regularly be used by guests in addition to the household. However, there's a significant distinction.
Neptune and Orian: Washable Cushion Covers
Neptune and Orian have removable seat and backrest covers. Their arm and base upholstery is fixed. Customers can wash the cushions, but they cannot change the entire sofa's color simply by purchasing replacement upholstery covers.
Atmosphere: Fully Removable, Replaceable Upholstery
Atmosphere goes further. Its covers are removable across all upholstered components, including the seats, backs, arms, and corners. Customers can purchase compatible replacement covers and change the sofa's color without replacing the underlying furniture.
This provides a meaningful long-term advantage. If your design preferences change, you move into a different home, or you simply want to refresh the space, Atmosphere allows you to update the sofa's appearance much more easily.
For all three collections, wash removable covers in cold water with a mild, fragrance-free detergent and lay them flat to air-dry. Never tumble-dry them.
Which Cozey Sleeper Offers the Most Fabric and Color Choices?
Atmosphere offers our widest selection of fabrics and colors, followed by Orian and then Neptune.
There's a practical reason for this. Because Atmosphere's upholstery is fully removable, we can store additional fabric covers separately in our fulfillment centers instead of holding fully upholstered modules in every color. Covers occupy considerably less warehouse space, making it easier to offer a broader selection.
All three collections now offer Aquaforte Velvet, a particularly attractive option for customers seeking durable, practical upholstery for homes with pets or children.
For customers who place a high value on personalizing their sofa's appearance, Atmosphere is our strongest recommendation.
Can You Expand or Reconfigure Your Cozey Sleeper Later?
Yes. All three collections are modular. Customers can add compatible modules, expand their seating arrangements, or modify their layouts over time.
This is particularly valuable for people who expect their living situation to change. For example, a customer might begin with a smaller sofa in an apartment and expand into a larger sectional after moving.
- Neptune allows customers to add sleeper seats, storage modules, and ottomans.
- Orian can be expanded with compatible sleeper seats, storage seats, and ottomans.
- Atmosphere offers the greatest flexibility in visual configuration, including different arm styles, backrest options, and armless arrangements.
When changing a sleeper configuration, customers should confirm that their selected modules remain compatible and produce the intended sleeping dimensions.
We believe modularity should make furniture more adaptable to life's changes rather than forcing customers to replace their entire sofa.
How Durable Are Cozey Sleeper Sofas?
All three collections are engineered for repeated conversion and long-term use. Their conversion systems undergo testing through thousands of opening-and-closing cycles, with mechanisms designed and tested for more than ten years of use.
Their layered-foam seat constructions are expected to provide approximately seven to ten years of comfortable use, depending on how the sofa is used and maintained. Unlike loose fiber-filled seat cushions, their layered-foam seat cushions don't require regular fluffing. Orian's loose back pillows may benefit from occasional fluffing to maintain their appearance.
Neptune, Orian, and Atmosphere Sleeper all include our standard five-year limited manufacturing warranty, covering eligible manufacturing defects, including qualifying issues with the conversion mechanisms.
Expected product lifespan and warranty duration are different measures: the warranty doesn't guarantee a specific number of years of unchanged comfort.
What Are the Downsides of Each Cozey Sleeper Sofa?
No sleeper sofa is the best choice for every home. Understanding the trade-offs matters just as much as understanding the advantages.
Neptune: More Structured and Less Customizable
Neptune's main limitations are its firmer seating, more classic appearance, and relatively limited fabric and upholstery customization. Customers who prefer softer back pillows or a modern low-profile silhouette may find Orian or Atmosphere more appealing. Its three-seater also requires more width than Orian's compact queen sleeper.
Orian: Lower Backrest and Separate Storage Requirements
Orian's lower backrest may not suit customers who prefer upright seating with higher back or head support. Its sleeper seats also don't include storage, meaning customers need separate storage modules or another place to keep bedding. And while Orian offers modular flexibility, it doesn't have Atmosphere's range of arm and backrest options.
Atmosphere: Larger Standard Footprint and Floor-Level Sleeping
Atmosphere's standard configurations are generally wider, although the ability to modify its arms and backrests can help reduce its footprint. Its floor-level sleeping surface may be less convenient for customers who prefer the height of a traditional bed. It also doesn't offer integrated sleeper storage.
Finally, because its cushions rely partly on Velcro connections and the containment provided by armrests, armless configurations may experience more cushion shifting during everyday use than Neptune or Orian.
None of these is necessarily a dealbreaker. They're simply factors worth considering before purchasing.
