Which Cozey Sofa Configuration Fits Your Living Room?

A room-planning guide to sofas, L-shaped sectionals, chaises, ottomans, walkways and modular compatibility.

Short answer: Start with the complete sofa footprint, including arms, corners and any chaise or ottoman. Then preserve a practical route through the room. Around 76.2 cm of walking space is a useful starting point; 61.0 cm can work in tighter homes, while 91.4 cm is more generous. Finally, check that the proposed modules actually form an available Cozey configuration.

Measure the room in three layers

  • The fixed envelope: wall-to-wall length and depth, windows, doors, heating, built-ins and any architectural obstacles.
  • The furniture envelope: the full assembled width and depth, not just individual seat-cushion dimensions. Include ottomans, chaises and open sleeper surfaces where relevant.
  • The usable circulation zone: a path to walk through the room, open doors, reach cupboards and move a coffee table if needed.

For example, a sofa can fit along a 243.8 cm wall yet still be wrong for the room if its depth blocks a frequently used doorway. Plan the traffic flow first, then consider comfort and seating capacity.

How much clearance should you leave?

How much clearance should you leave?

Available clearancePractical interpretation
61.0 cmCan work in a compact flat or apartment when circulation is tight.
76.2 cmOur general planning target for a useful walking route.
91.4 cmA more comfortable allowance when the room permits.

These are flexible planning guidelines, not universally required building clearances. Measure the clear passage after accounting for furniture, open doors and any protruding legs or corners. Consult applicable accessibility or building requirements where relevant.

Representative complete two-seater widths

ConfigurationApproximate assembled width
Cassini, armless134.6 cm
Atmosphere, armless149.9 cm
Neptune, with arms164.1 cm
Gaia Regular, with arms172.0 cm
Cassini, with arms182.9 cm
Gaia XL, with arms183.9 cm
Orian, with arms184.8 cm
Ciello Regular, with arms189.9 cm
Atmosphere, rounded arms196.2 cm
Ciello XL, with arms203.8 cm
Atmosphere, high arms206.0 cm

These examples describe the named arm arrangements only. Their full depths differ. A two-seater with one arm, a different arm style or a corner arrangement can change total width; select your exact configuration in the product configurator for the complete footprint. Do not add seat-cushion widths to estimate total sofa width; upholstery and frame/module pitch are different measurements.

Smallest footprints are not always the most comfortable

Cassini is particularly compact: an armless two-seater is approximately 134.6 cm × 91.4 cm, while the version with two arms is about 182.9 cm × 91.4 cm. Gaia Regular with arms is about 172.0 cm × 86.1 cm. Ciello Regular with arms is about 189.9 cm × 95.2 cm.

These examples illustrate different compromises. Cassini is compact and medium-firm, Gaia has a slimmer external depth and soft cloud-like cushions, and Ciello offers relaxed lounging with a somewhat larger footprint. Choosing solely by sofa width could leave you with a seat feel or depth you do not enjoy.

Can an L-shaped sectional fit a compact room?

Yes. A small sectional can make good use of a corner, as long as its two legs do not block circulation. A compact, armless Cassini layout with one seat, a corner and one seat occupies approximately 158.8 cm × 158.8 cm. A comparable small armless Gaia corner arrangement occupies around 166.1 cm × 166.1 cm.

A corner can hold a person, but it may be better used as lounging space. In the compact Cassini setup above, we would describe two adults as a more comfortable everyday seating expectation than guaranteeing three independent upright seats. Seating capacity depends on how people prefer to sit.

For larger L-shapes, add compatible modules along one or both sides and take the complete assembled measurement from the configurator. The dimensions of a small armless L are not interchangeable with those of a larger corner layout with two arms.

Dedicated chaise versus an ottoman extension

Ciello offers a dedicated chaise module. The Regular two-seater with dedicated chaise is approximately 189.9 cm × 174.0 cm. In this layout the chaise extends the ordinary 95.2 cm sofa depth by about 78.7 cm without increasing its overall width. That distinction matters for a narrow wall with extra floor space in front.

With a compatible Gaia or Ciello ottoman, you can extend the lounging area in front of a seat without creating a permanent fixed-side chaise. These ottomans remain freestanding rather than attaching to the sofa, but their weight and anti-slip leg pads help limit normal movement. Cassini does not offer an equivalent matching ottoman in the current configuration range, so do not assume every collection has this option.

Can you reverse the direction of a sectional?

In general, Cozey’s modular corner layouts can be reversed by rearranging the component pieces. However, arms are not always universally interchangeable. Cassini uses distinct left- and right-arm modules; the appropriate handed component is required when moving an arm to the opposite side. Neptune and Orian also use side-specific arms and always require both arms.

Ciello, Gaia, Cassini and Atmosphere can be configured with two, one or no arms where the selected layout allows it. Removing arms saves width, but also removes a place to lean. Ciello and Gaia’s loose cushions may shift somewhat more without arms. Atmosphere Sleeper cushions can be less laterally secure in armless layouts than Atmosphere Regular or Storage.

Important configuration rules before you order

Important configuration rules before you order

Collection / choiceWhat is and is not possible
Ciello / Gaia sizeKeep Regular and XL seating modules separate. They cannot be mixed in one sectional.
Ciello backrest styleUse either Original or High Angled across the sofa, not a mixture.
Atmosphere seat functionRegular, Storage and Sleeper cannot be combined within one sofa.
Atmosphere future upgradesChanging from Regular to Storage or Sleeper requires purchasing a new sofa; a seat-module swap is not an upgrade path.
Neptune / Orian armsBoth arms are mandatory; left- and right-specific components matter.
Cassini armsA reversed arm position needs the corresponding left- or right-arm module.

Modularity is valuable, but it does not mean every product family, seat function or backrest can be mixed. Planning around actual compatibility is more useful than a purely theoretical floor plan.

If the room must also work as a guest bedroom

Draw the sleeping footprint as well as the closed sofa. Orian’s two-seater is approximately 184.8 cm wide when closed, and its unfolded depth is about 202.6 cm. Neptune’s three-seater is approximately 228.1 cm wide; the sleeper arrangement extends around 156.0 cm into the room. These are different products with different bed layouts, so measure the final chosen configuration rather than treating a sofa-bed label as a fixed dimension.

Cozey sleeper sofas can sit against the wall; the critical clearance is typically in front when they are opened. Check coffee tables, cabinet doors, door swings and access to the bed for your guests. Sleeper dimensions and bedding sizes are separate from everyday sofa measurements.

Three realistic room-planning scenarios

Scenario 1: A narrow living-room wall. On a 190 cm wall, Gaia Regular leaves more margin than Ciello Regular, which almost fills the width and needs careful measurement. If the wall is only 203 cm wide, Ciello XL at approximately 203.8 cm is a near-fit that exceeds the wall width. Do not describe it as a guaranteed fit.

Scenario 2: A square room with unused corners. Compare compact armless Cassini and Gaia L-shaped layouts rather than assuming a straight sofa is the only space-saving solution. Keep the main passage open and consider whether the corner is intended for lounging or regular seated conversation.

Scenario 3: A living room that doubles as guest space. Choose based on the open sleeper footprint and practical circulation first. A compact sofa by day can still prevent access to doors or wardrobes at night.

A final measuring checklist

  • Measure the available wall width and the clear floor depth separately.
  • Mark door swings, drawers, furniture you will keep and the primary walking route.
  • Choose the exact collection, arm style, size, corner layout and seat function.
  • Record the complete assembled dimensions shown for that configuration, not a single module width.
  • Include additional ottoman, chaise or unfolded sleeper footprint.
  • Confirm delivery access and stair or lift turns before ordering.

An accurate room plan includes the furniture, the route around it and the compatibility of its modules. All three are required for a sofa to fit your life, not just your wall.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. A single Ciello configuration cannot mix Regular and XL seating modules. The same restriction applies to Gaia.

No. Atmosphere Regular, Storage and Sleeper seat functions cannot be mixed in the same sofa.

No. It requires a different sofa, not merely new Sleeper seat modules.

In the confirmed Regular two-seater with dedicated chaise, width remains approximately 190 cm, while depth increases by about 78.7 cm. Check the exact selected configuration.

Cozey sofas can generally be placed against a wall. For sleeper versions, plan for the space needed in front to open the bed.
