A pet-friendly sofa needs a tightly woven, stain-resistant fabric and covers you can remove and machine wash. In Cozey's range, the Ciello sofa, Gaia sofa and Neptune Sofa Bed in Aquaforte performance fabric meet those checks, and the Atmosphere sofa adds washable cushion covers on a fully modular frame.
What a pet-friendly sofa has to handle
A sofa shared with a dog or cat takes three kinds of wear that most upholstery is not designed around: claws, moisture and hair. Before you compare models, check how the fabric's surface is built, how it responds to a spill, and whether hair lifts off or works its way in.
Weave and surface come first. Looped and raised-pile fabrics leave fibres exposed that a claw can hook and pull. A tight, flat weave gives claws less to catch on, which is the closest any upholstery comes to a scratch resistant sofa. Treat weave density as a way to limit snags rather than a guarantee against a cat that scratches on purpose.
Stain behaviour is the second check. On a stain-resistant fabric, a spill sits on the surface long enough to blot away instead of soaking straight in, which matters for water bowls, muddy paws and the occasional accident.
Cover care decides how clean the sofa can actually get. Surface cleaning handles a single spill, while a removable, machine-washable cover handles the hair and odour that build up over months. Pet hair is a related test: on a tight weave, hair rests on top where a vacuum can lift it, while on looser fabrics it works into the fibres.
The last two checks are comfort and longevity. A durable sofa fabric for pets should still feel soft, so order a free swatch and handle it before you decide. And because pet damage usually lands on one seat or one arm, a modular sofa that lets you replace a single module keeps one bad afternoon from costing you the whole sofa.
Cozey chose the sofas below against those six checks, giving the most weight to weave and washability, the two that do the most to keep a sofa looking good with a pet in the house.
Best for claws, spills and full cover washes
Aquaforte is a polyester-based performance upholstery developed for Cozey's sofa range, and it is the strongest match for a pet household. It combines a tight weave and stain resistance with removable, machine-washable covers and a soft hand feel. The tight weave resists surface snagging from pet claws better than loosely woven materials such as boucle, chenille or velvet, and pet hair sits on the surface instead of embedding in the fibres, which makes vacuuming more effective. For how Aquaforte is built and how to care for it, see What performance fabric is and how it works.
Ciello sofa
The Ciello sofa is a deep, plush modular sofa with removable, washable covers, offered in Aquaforte alongside other fabric families. For a home with a pet, choose an Aquaforte colourway. Ciello can also be configured with a Storage Ottoman module, which gives leashes, brushes and toys a place off the floor.
Gaia sofa
The Gaia sofa is a deep-seated modular sofa with removable, washable covers. For daily life with a dog or cat, choose Aquaforte. Gaia's fabric is listed as fully interchangeable, which keeps the cover choice open as your household changes.
Neptune Sofa Bed
The Neptune Sofa Bed is a modular sleeper sofa offered in Aquaforte and performance fabric, with removable, washable covers and hidden storage options. It suits a den or guest room where a pet naps during the day and a guest sleeps at night.
Best for a household that will change
The Atmosphere sofa is a fully modular sofa that Cozey labels family and pet friendly. Atmosphere is made with OEKO-TEX certified materials, its cushion covers are removable and washable, and it is offered in performance fabric. You can start with the base configuration you need now and add modules later, for example after a new pet arrives or you move to a bigger room.
Modularity is the one check every Cozey sofa passes. Cozey sofas are fully modular and reconfigurable, and individual modules can be bought separately, so a pet-friendly couch can be rebuilt one piece at a time instead of replaced. To compare configurations, browse every Cozey sofa offered in performance fabric.
How other upholstery formats compare with pets
Fabrics outside the performance category each carry a specific trade-off in a pet household. Boucle and chenille are the most likely to show cat scratch damage, because their loops and twisted fibres give claws something to catch. Velvet shows pet hair more visibly than tighter weaves. Linen and cotton blends absorb moisture quickly, which makes accidents harder to manage. Leather wipes clean easily, but deep scratches from claws are difficult to repair.
If one of these looks is what you want, it tends to last longest in a room the pet doesn't use. For a fabric-by-fabric comparison, see the guide to sofa fabric types.
