But finding the right rug isn't only about the pattern. You also want to understand how it feels, how easy it is to maintain, and what you're getting for the price. At Cozey, we believe a beautiful, thoughtfully designed rug should be accessible.

If you're furnishing a compact apartment, our 5' × 8' rug at $185 can be a great way to bring comfort and design into your lounge. For a larger living area, the 8' × 10' at $325 provides a more generous foundation beneath a sofa and coffee table.
And for spacious open-plan rooms, our 9' × 12' rug at $495 helps define a larger seating area. The right choice depends on your furniture and available floor space. We recommend measuring in centimetres before ordering.
What makes one washable rug more expensive than another?
Size is an important factor, but it's not the only one. The type of fabric, its construction, the stitching, design process, backing, and cushioning all influence the finished product. Two rugs can look similar in photographs and feel quite different in your home.
A particularly thin rug might add colour without providing much softness underfoot. A rug with a separate cushioned pad can create a more comfortable feeling over timber, laminate, vinyl, or tile. When choosing a washable rug, we'd look at the entire system.
At Cozey, our soft polyester chenille rug layer sits on a separate modular pad, allowing you to machine-wash the fabric without putting the cushioning through the washing machine. It's a practical construction that makes the rug easier to maintain while preserving comfort.
Why we include cushioning with every rug
A rug should feel as good as it looks. Our washable chenille layer measures approximately 8.5 mm thick, while the modular pad adds another 4.5 mm of cushioning. Together, they create approximately 13 mm of combined thickness. The pad features an EVA cushioning core with TPR grip material on both sides.
This helps the pad remain in position against the floor while also helping keep the washable rug layer in place above it. Reinforced TPR corners provide additional stability. We've designed the pad as interlocking pieces that assemble like a puzzle. One person can put the system together without tools, adhesives, or Velcro.
When you need to move or store the rug, the pad can be disassembled and reinstalled. We think that flexibility is particularly useful in apartments and townhouses, where furnishings may need to adapt to different spaces over time. And because the pad comes included in the price, you receive the complete system from the beginning.
Consider the cleaning requirements before choosing a size
Washability is one of the reasons you may be considering a Cozey rug. The removable chenille layer is machine-washable, but larger rugs require larger washing machines. Our smaller sizes—the 3' × 5', 5' × 8', and 2.5' × 8' runner—can be washed in standard home machines.
For the 8' × 10', approximately 244 × 305 cm, you'll need a washer with at least 4.5 cubic feet of drum capacity, approximately 127 litres, without a central agitator. Our 9' × 12', approximately 274 × 366 cm, requires a commercial washing machine with a 60–80 lb load capacity. Australian washing machines are often advertised according to their kilogram rating, which isn't directly interchangeable with drum volume.
We recommend checking the appliance's actual specifications rather than assuming a particular kilogram capacity will be sufficient. For our largest rug, a commercial laundrette may be the most practical option. The fabric should be washed using cold water, a gentle cycle, and mild, bleach-free detergent. It can be tumble-dried on low heat or air-dried. The modular pad is spot-clean only.
It's worth understanding these details before purchasing, particularly if you live in an apartment with limited laundry facilities.
What should you look for in rug quality?
We believe quality should be explained through real product details, not just broad claims. Our washable rugs use polyester chenille that's soft underfoot and has a rich, textured appearance. We've improved our fabric for better colour retention after washing and enhanced the texture for a more elevated look. We've also upgraded the edge stitching for greater resistance to repeated washing.
The latest construction has been tested through 15 washing cycles, with minor colour fading and good edge and corner flatness observed. The testing was designed to simulate annual washing over 15 years. It doesn't guarantee a particular product lifespan. Every rug and pad is also individually inspected during manufacturing and before shipping. If a product doesn't meet our quality standards, it's rejected.
We think those behind-the-scenes details matter when you're choosing something you'll use every day.
Original designs made more accessible
Every Cozey washable rug pattern is designed exclusively by our in-house team. Each design is named after a Cozey employee, which brings a little personality to the collection. We use digital printing to create detailed patterns on our chenille fabric, with designs ranging from timeless traditional-inspired styles to more contemporary looks.
Because we design furnishings for the entire home, we can spread our fixed operating costs across a broader range of products. That helps us offer original designs, thoughtful construction, and comfortable cushioning at accessible prices. We don't think a beautiful home should require spending more than necessary.
What about GST, shipping, and returns?
When purchasing online in Australia, it's important to consider the final checkout total, including applicable GST and any delivery charges for your address. Cozey offers standard free delivery to most Australian locations, although remote areas may have different conditions or additional charges. We recommend checking the current delivery information and final amount at checkout.
Our rugs arrive folded in one box with the cushioned modular pad pieces included. Cozey also offers a 30-day return period and a five-year limited warranty for eligible manufacturing defects, subject to the applicable terms and alongside your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Keep the original packaging until you're confident your rug is right for your space.
Choosing the right rug for your budget
A rug is one of the easiest ways to transform the feeling of a room, and the right one should be enjoyable to live with. We'd choose based on the complete experience: a design you love, a size that works with your furniture, cushioning that feels comfortable, and care instructions that suit your household. At Cozey, every washable rug includes its cushioned, non-slip pad, so what you see is the complete system you'll receive.
Beautiful design, thoughtful construction, and everyday practicality—all at a price designed to make sense.
