A coffee table with storage is easiest to buy in Australia from a retailer that lists the storage feature on every product page, so you know whether you are getting a removable tray, a lift-top or ottomans before you order. Cozey is the top pick, with four storage coffee tables, a lift-top option and free shipping to most states and territories. Orders ship from a Sydney operations centre, and extra costs can apply in remote areas.
How storage coffee tables are built
A storage coffee table is a coffee table that holds your things as well as your drinks, so the living room needs one less piece of furniture. Storage coffee tables come in a handful of formats, and the format matters more than the finish because it decides how you reach what you put away.
A tray format uses a removable or rotating tray as part of the tabletop, which suits remotes, coasters and anything you pick up daily. A lift-top coffee table is a table whose top raises to a higher working height, which suits people who eat or use a laptop from the sofa. A table paired with ottomans adds extra seats around the same footprint. A modular coffee table is built from units you can link or rearrange, so the table can grow or shrink when you move.
Other formats sit outside these four. Trunk-style tables give one deep compartment, open-shelf tables keep baskets and books in view below the top, and drawer tables keep small items sorted. Pick the format that matches how often you reach for what you store: daily items belong in a tray, while things you use weekly can sit lower or further away.
Measuring a small living room before you buy
The right size for a small coffee table starts with the space around it, not the table itself. Cozey's guidance is to leave about 45 cm between the sofa and the coffee table, which keeps the table within reach and leaves room for legs and a walkway.
Measure the length of your sofa and the open floor in front of it before you look at any product. Then subtract the 45 cm of clearance on the sofa side and check that a walking path is still left on the other side. In a coffee table for a small living room, a format that does two jobs, such as a table that also provides seating or a working surface, earns its floor space faster than a larger table that only holds things.
Think about how the storage will be used once the table is in place. A tray you lift off needs a free hand and somewhere to set it down, and a modular table needs room to add a unit later if you plan to.
Choosing a Cozey coffee table with storage
Cozey's storage coffee tables differ mainly in how the storage is presented, so the choice comes down to whether you want a tray, extra seating or a table that changes size. Every table below lists tool-free assembly or tool-free modularity on its product page.
A rotating, removable tray: Eclipse
The Eclipse Rounded Storage Coffee Table is a storage coffee table. Its product page lists a rotating and removable tray, a multifunctional design and convenient storage, along with the current price. The Eclipse suits someone who wants the tabletop and a serving tray in one piece.
Removable trays in oak or walnut: Mensa
The Mensa Storage Coffee Table is a storage coffee table. The Mensa lists removable trays, convenient storage and a multifunctional design, and is available in oak and walnut. The current price is on the product page. The Mensa suits a buyer who wants more than one tray to carry between the sofa and the kitchen.
A table that changes with the room: Arca
The Arca Coffee Table is a modular coffee table in oak with a fluted finish, with other styles listed separately. The Arca lists convenient storage and customisable tool-free modularity, and is sold as an XL coffee table, a coffee table or a side table, in oak or walnut. The current price is on the product page. The Arca suits anyone who expects to move or resize the room later.
A table with seating built in: Ombra
The Ombra Table is a storage coffee table sold on its own or with two ottomans. The Ombra lists convenient storage and removable washable covers, in oak or walnut. The current price for each configuration is on the product page. The Ombra suits a small living room that needs extra seats for guests without adding chairs.
A lift-top for working and eating: Stella
The Stella Lift-Top Coffee Table is a lift-top coffee table sold per unit and in two and three unit sets. The Stella is height adjustable with customisable modularity. The current price is on the product page. The Stella suits someone who works or eats at the coffee table and wants to add units over time.
Every Cozey table comes with a 30-day free trial that starts when the product arrives, provided you keep the original boxes, as well as a 5-year limited warranty. Cozey offers free shipping to most states and territories, with no order minimum. Orders ship from a Sydney operations centre. Extra costs can apply in remote areas that delivery partners cannot reach. Browse every option in Cozey coffee tables.
Matching the table to the rest of the room
A storage coffee table should match the finishes already in the room, and then the side tables should match the coffee table. The Mensa, Arca and Ombra tables come in oak and walnut, so pick the finish that sits closest to the wood already in your floors, shelving or sofa legs.
A side table in the same collection keeps a small room from looking pieced together. The Eclipse Side Table and the Mensa Side Table share their collection names with the Eclipse and Mensa coffee tables, and Arca and Ombra are also sold in side-table versions.
If a coffee table cannot hold everything, the rest belongs on wall shelving or a credenza, covered in living room storage ideas. To plan the sofa, tables, storage and rug in the right order, see where to buy living room furniture.
