When furnishing a studio apartment or smaller living room, every centimetre matters.
A sofa that's too deep can make a room feel cramped. Wide armrests can take up valuable seating space. A sectional might appear too large until you discover that a modular configuration can fit into a corner more efficiently than a traditional straight sofa.
And even when you've found the perfect dimensions, there's another challenge: getting the furniture through narrow doors, staircases and elevators.
At Cozey, we've designed our modular furniture around these everyday challenges.
Our sofas arrive in compact boxes, assemble without tools and can be configured into straight sofas, L-shaped sectionals or U-shaped arrangements. Customers can choose the number of modules they need, and several of our collections can be configured with two arms, one arm or no arms.
Some collections prioritize the smallest possible footprint. Others provide deeper seating, integrated storage, sleeping functionality or additional design flexibility.
Here's how to choose the right Cozey sofa for your space, with actual product dimensions and practical recommendations.

What Should You Look for in a Sofa for a Small Apartment?
Before choosing a collection, we recommend considering five things.
- Overall dimensions. Measure the width and depth of the complete sofa, including armrests. Individual seat dimensions don't tell the whole story.
- Seating comfort. A sofa should fit your space without feeling uncomfortable. Seat depth, firmness and backrest support are just as important as width.
- Configuration flexibility. A modular sofa can adapt to a corner, narrow wall or unusual room shape.
- Delivery and assembly. A sofa that fits your living room still needs to pass through your building's entrance, hallways and staircases.
- Long-term adaptability. If you move to a larger apartment or different home, can you add, remove or rearrange modules instead of replacing your sofa?
At Cozey, our modular approach is designed to address all five considerations.
Which Cozey Sofa Has the Smallest Footprint?
Every Cozey collection has different proportions.
Some have narrow seats. Others have shallower depths. And some offer compact armrests that make the complete sofa smaller even when their individual seat modules aren't the narrowest.
Understanding these differences is important when choosing furniture for a small living room.
Comparing Cozey Seat Module Dimensions
| Collection | Seat module width | Depth |
|---|---|---|
| Ciello | about 79 cm | about 95 cm |
| Ciello XL | about 86 cm | about 102 cm |
| Gaia | about 80 cm | about 86 cm |
| Gaia XL | about 86 cm | about 92 cm |
| Atmosphere — High Arm style | about 75 cm | about 103 cm |
| Atmosphere — Rounded Arm style | about 75 cm | about 98 cm |
| Cassini | about 67 cm | about 91 cm |
| Neptune | about 64 cm | about 99 cm |
| Orian | about 79 cm | about 104 cm |
These dimensions describe individual modules or their associated configurations. Overall assembled sofa dimensions depend on the number of modules, armrests, corners and backrest styles selected.
A few observations stand out.
Cassini combines one of our narrowest seat modules with a relatively shallow profile. This makes it particularly attractive for compact living rooms.
Gaia is surprisingly efficient in depth, with a standard module measuring about 86 cm. It's worth considering for customers who want comfortable seating without a particularly deep sofa footprint.
Atmosphere offers substantial customisation through different arm and backrest styles.
Ciello XL and Gaia XL provide larger proportions for customers who prioritize lounging space and have enough room to accommodate it.
However, individual seat measurements don't always reveal which complete sofa is smallest.
For that, we need to account for the arms.
What Are the Smallest Cozey Two-Seater Sofas?
Summary: Cassini's armless two-seater is the narrowest configuration compared here, at about 135 cm wide.
If you're looking for a compact sofa for two people, overall width is often the deciding factor.
Here are representative complete two-seater widths across our collections.
| Cozey sofa | Overall width |
|---|---|
| Cassini — Armless | about 135 cm |
| Atmosphere — Armless | about 150 cm |
| Neptune — With arms | about 164 cm |
| Gaia — With arms | about 172 cm |
| Cassini — With arms | about 183 cm |
| Gaia XL — With arms | about 184 cm |
| Orian — With arms | about 185 cm |
| Ciello — With arms | about 190 cm |
| Atmosphere — Rounded arms | about 196 cm |
| Ciello XL — With arms | about 204 cm |
| Atmosphere — High arms | about 206 cm |
Dimensions are for the configurations specified. One-arm configurations and other arm styles can change the final width. Use the Cozey configurator for the dimensions of your exact setup.
Cassini: Our Recommendation for Very Narrow Spaces
Cassini is particularly well suited for compact apartments.
A standard two-seater measures about 183 cm wide and about 91 cm deep, including its distinctive curved armrests.
But customers can also choose an armless configuration measuring about 135 cm wide and about 91 cm deep.
That saves about 48 cm of width without reducing the size of the seating modules.
This makes Cassini a strong option for a studio apartment, a narrow wall or a multifunctional living space.
There is an aesthetic trade-off.
Cassini's curved armrests are an important part of its sculptural design. Removing them creates a more minimal appearance and eliminates the ability to lean against the arms while lounging.
However, because Cassini uses structured layered-foam cushioning, removing the arms doesn't create a meaningful cushion-stability issue.
Gaia: Compact Dimensions With Plush Comfort
Gaia is another excellent option for smaller homes.
Its standard two-seater is about 172 cm wide, making it narrower than several other Cozey two-seaters with arms.
Its standard seat modules also have a relatively shallow overall depth of about 86 cm.
Gaia is a particularly attractive choice for customers who want a softer, more relaxed seating experience without using unnecessary floor space.
Like Ciello, Gaia can also be configured with one arm or no arms.
Because its cushions include loose-fill materials, an armless configuration may allow slightly more cushion movement, although removing the arms doesn't compromise the intended seating comfort.
Atmosphere: Best for Customising the Footprint
Atmosphere provides more options for customers who want to fine-tune their dimensions.
For example, a two-seater measures about:
- About 206 cm with high arms.
- About 196 cm with rounded arms.
- About 150 cm without arms.
Changing the arm style can save several centimetres without changing the number of seats.
Removing both arms reduces the overall width substantially.
Atmosphere also offers different backrest styles that affect its dimensions and appearance.
Importantly, Atmosphere Regular and Atmosphere Storage maintain their cushion stability without relying on armrests for containment.
That makes armless configurations especially practical when maximizing space is the priority.
Can an L-Shaped Sectional Fit in a Small Apartment?
Absolutely.
One common misconception is that sectional sofas are only suitable for large living rooms.
In reality, a carefully configured corner sectional can make efficient use of a room's perimeter.
At Cozey, our modular collections can be arranged into corner sectionals by combining compatible seats and corner modules.
Customers can build along two sides of a room rather than placing all their seating against one wall.
Our Smallest Confirmed Corner Sectional: Cassini
A compact Cassini configuration with one seat, one corner and another seat can occupy about:
About 159 cm × 159 cm
That's just over 1.5 metres in each direction.
Although three people can fit on this configuration, we believe it's most comfortable for two people, with the corner used for lounging.
This makes it particularly suitable for couples who want an L-shaped sofa without committing to a large sectional.
Another Compact Option: Gaia
A comparable armless Gaia configuration measures about:
About 166 cm × 166 cm
This provides a similarly compact corner arrangement, with Gaia's softer, relaxed seating experience.
For customers choosing between the two, we'd recommend Cassini when minimizing the footprint is most important and Gaia when plush comfort takes priority.
What About Larger Sectionals?
The beauty of modular furniture is that customers don't need to stop at a compact L-shape.
Depending on their room, they can add compatible modules to create larger L-shaped or U-shaped sectionals.
A smaller apartment might accommodate one seat on each side of a corner.
A larger space may allow two or three seats along one side and additional seating along another.
The number of modules determines the final dimensions.
Our online configurator automatically updates those measurements as customers build their layout.
What Is the Best Small Sofa With a Chaise?
A chaise is particularly appealing in a small apartment because it allows one person to stretch out without requiring a much larger sectional.
There's an important distinction between a dedicated chaise and an ottoman.
At Cozey, Ciello is the collection that offers a dedicated chaise module.
A Ciello two-seater with chaise measures about:
About 190 cm wide × about 174 cm deep
This makes it a particularly attractive option for customers who want a compact sofa with an integrated lounging area.
Other Cozey collections can create a similar lounging experience by pairing a sofa with compatible ottomans.
The advantage of an ottoman is flexibility.
Customers can move it, reposition it or use it separately when they need more open floor space.
A dedicated chaise creates a more integrated look and a defined place to stretch out.
Neither solution is universally better.
For very small rooms, a movable ottoman may provide greater day-to-day versatility.
For customers who prefer the appearance and experience of a dedicated chaise, Ciello is our recommendation.
Should You Choose a Sofa With Arms or an Armless Sofa?
Armrests play a bigger role in overall sofa dimensions than many customers realize.
They can also affect lounging comfort, appearance and, depending on the collection, cushion positioning.
Several Cozey collections support configurations with two arms, one arm or no arms.
| Collection | Arm options | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Ciello / Ciello XL | Two, one or none | Loose cushions may shift somewhat more without arms |
| Gaia / Gaia XL | Two, one or none | Loose cushions may shift somewhat more without arms |
| Cassini | Two, one or none | Armless layout is stable but changes the signature curved look |
| Atmosphere Regular / Storage | Two, one or none | Armless layouts don't create a cushion-stability problem |
| Atmosphere Sleeper | Two, one or none | Velcro-secured sleeping cushions may shift more without arms |
| Neptune | Two arms required | Arms conceal the connector system |
| Orian | Two arms required | Arms conceal the connector system |
One-arm configurations can be particularly useful when a sofa sits against a wall or when customers want an open side facing the rest of the room.
Armless configurations maximize seating width relative to the furniture's total width.
However, arms also provide a comfortable surface to lean against and contribute to the sofa's design.
Our recommendation is to choose based on both space and how you like to lounge.
Will a Cozey Sofa Fit Through Narrow Doors and Staircases?
Summary: No Cozey sofa box weighs more than about 23 kg, and every box has at least one dimension of about 66 cm or less, but tight turns and landings should still be measured before ordering.
One of the biggest challenges of furnishing an apartment isn't finding a sofa that fits the living room.
It's getting the sofa into the apartment in the first place.
Large assembled furniture can be difficult to move through elevators, narrow doors, tight hallways and staircases.
Cozey's modular, boxed construction is designed to make delivery much more manageable.
Our Sofa Packaging Dimensions
Our sofa boxes are designed around three important limits:
- No box weighs more than about 23 kg.
- No box exceeds about 122 cm along its longest side.
- The combined length and girth of a box doesn't exceed about 330 cm.
These limitations help us keep individual packages compact rather than shipping an entire sofa as one oversized piece.
There's also a useful mathematical consequence of our packaging requirements.
For a rectangular box, length plus girth is calculated as:
Longest side + 2 × (middle side + shortest side)
Because that total cannot exceed about 330 cm, the shortest side of any compliant rectangular box cannot exceed about 66 cm.
That means every Cozey sofa box has at least one dimension measuring about 66 cm or less.
When appropriately oriented, this makes our boxes well suited to passing through many standard apartment doorways.
For example, a doorway with about 71 cm of clear width has at least about 5 cm of clearance relative to that maximum shortest dimension.
However, doorway width alone doesn't guarantee that a box can navigate every entrance.
Tight staircase turns, small landings, unusual hallway layouts and low ceilings can still create challenges.
For difficult spaces, we recommend measuring the actual clear openings and turning areas before ordering.
Can One Person Carry the Boxes?
With a maximum weight of about 23 kg per box, the individual packages are considerably more manageable than a large assembled sofa.
However, whether one person can safely carry a box depends on their physical ability and the conditions of the building.
For stairs or awkward spaces, we recommend getting help when needed.
The most important advantage is that customers can transport their sofa one manageable package at a time.
Are Cozey Sofas Easy to Assemble in Small Rooms?
Yes.
Cozey sofas are designed for tool-free assembly, with modular components that connect using integrated clips or leg connector clips, depending on the collection.
Customers don't need power tools or specialized furniture-assembly equipment.
And because each module can be handled individually, they generally don't need to clear a large open area to assemble the entire sofa.
Modules can be assembled close to their intended location, then connected to create the final configuration.
For a small apartment, this is particularly useful.
Customers can bring individual boxes into the room, assemble their seating and build the sofa incrementally.
Some space is still needed to position the modules and engage the connectors, but the process doesn't require the same large working area as assembling many conventional furniture systems.
Another advantage is that the sofa can later be disassembled into individual modules when moving.
This makes Cozey especially practical for renters and customers who expect to move homes over time.
Can Cozey Sofas Be Placed Directly Against a Wall?
Yes.
All Cozey sofa collections can be positioned directly against a wall without requiring clearance behind their backrests.
This is a useful feature for smaller apartments where every centimetre of floor space matters.
It also applies to our sleeper collections.
Neptune, Orian and Atmosphere Sleeper don't require additional space behind the sofa when converting into beds.
Instead, customers need to ensure sufficient clearance in front of the sofa for the unfolded sleeping surface.
For regular sofas, how much distance to leave between the sofa, coffee table and other furniture is largely a matter of personal preference.
We recommend considering how you walk through the room, whether you like to stretch out your legs and how frequently you move surrounding furniture.
What Is the Best Sofa Bed for a Small Apartment?
Summary: Orian suits a compact queen-size bed, Neptune suits built-in storage and shallow three-seat sleeping layouts and Atmosphere Sleeper suits softer sleeping comfort and customisable designs.
A sleeper sofa can be an excellent solution for a small apartment because it combines everyday seating with a place for overnight guests.
At Cozey, our three modular sleeper collections offer different advantages.
Orian: Best Compact Queen-Size Sleeper
Orian's two-seater measures about 185 cm wide and converts into a queen-size sleeping surface.
When unfolded, its depth is about 203 cm.
No additional ottomans are required to create the queen-size bed.
This makes Orian one of our strongest recommendations for customers who want a proper guest bed without giving up an entire room.
Neptune: Best for Built-In Bedding Storage
Neptune offers integrated storage inside every seat.
A three-seater measures about 228 cm wide and creates a double (full) sleeping surface extending about 156 cm into the room.
That can be particularly useful for rooms that are relatively wide but shallow.
A two-seater with storage ottomans offers a narrower daytime sofa, although its unfolded sleeping footprint extends about 203 cm in depth.
Neptune's storage is particularly valuable for apartments with limited closet space.
Atmosphere Sleeper: Best for Flexible Layouts and Softer Sleeping
Atmosphere Sleeper offers softer sleeping comfort and substantial configuration flexibility.
A three-seater can create an east–west sleeping surface extending about 173 cm into the room.
A two-seater with an ottoman creates a north–south sleeping arrangement extending about 247 cm.
Customers can also modify the arms and backrests to adapt the sofa's dimensions and appearance.
It's important to distinguish Atmosphere Sleeper from Atmosphere Regular and Storage: the sleeper's Velcro-secured sections may experience more cushion movement in armless configurations.
Our recommendation: Orian for a compact queen-size bed, Neptune for integrated storage and shallow three-seat sleeping layouts and Atmosphere Sleeper for softer sleeping comfort and customisable designs.
Can You Expand a Cozey Sofa When You Move?
Yes. This is one of the fundamental advantages of modular furniture.
A sofa that works in a studio apartment today doesn't necessarily need to be replaced when you move into a larger home.
Customers can purchase compatible additional modules to expand their existing configurations.
A small two-seater might eventually become a three-seater.
A straight sofa might become an L-shaped sectional.
And a compact corner sectional might grow into a larger configuration as the room allows.
The same modular approach can also work in reverse.
If customers move into a smaller apartment, they may be able to remove modules or rearrange their existing furniture to fit the new space.
Compatibility depends on the collection and specific product generation, so customers should confirm the available modules before expanding a configuration.
We believe furniture should adapt to changes in people's lives rather than forcing them to start over every time their living situation changes.
How Can You Find the Right Cozey Sofa for Your Exact Room Dimensions?
There are two ways we help customers choose configurations.
Use Our Online Sofa Configurator
Cozey's online configurator automatically updates the overall dimensions as customers customise their sofa.
Customers can add or remove modules, choose different arm styles where available and build straight, L-shaped or U-shaped configurations.
As the configuration changes, the displayed dimensions update automatically.
This allows customers to work backward from their available space.
For example, if they have a wall that's about 191 cm wide, they can explore configurations that fit within that width while comparing different seating arrangements.
Book a Free Design Consultation
We also offer free design consultations.
Customers can share room measurements or floor plans, and our team can help recommend a suitable sofa collection and configuration.
This is particularly useful for irregular rooms, challenging corners, narrow spaces and customers deciding between several modular arrangements.
Rather than guessing whether a sofa will fit, customers can make the decision using actual measurements.
Which Cozey Sofa Should You Choose for a Small Apartment?
Here's where we'd recommend starting based on different priorities.
| Your priority | Our recommendation | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Narrowest confirmed two-seater | Cassini armless | About 135 cm wide |
| Smallest confirmed corner sectional | Cassini | About 159 cm × 159 cm armless L-shape |
| Compact plush two-seater | Gaia | About 172 cm wide with arms |
| Dedicated chaise in a compact layout | Ciello | About 190 cm × 174 cm two-seater with chaise |
| Most customisable arm and backrest styles | Atmosphere | Multiple profiles and armless configurations |
| Queen-size sleeping in a compact sofa | Orian | About 185 cm two-seater converts into a queen |
| Built-in storage and guest sleeping | Neptune | Storage in every seat |
| Sofa for a wide but relatively shallow sleeping area | Neptune three-seater | About 156 cm fully extended depth |
| Sofa that can expand with a future move | Cozey modular collections | Add or rearrange compatible modules |
The most important consideration isn't finding the smallest sofa on this list.
It's finding the configuration that uses your available space efficiently while providing the comfort and functionality you want.
Final Thoughts: A Small Apartment Doesn't Have to Mean Compromising on Comfort
At Cozey, we believe great furniture should fit your life—not force you to design your life around it.
A smaller apartment shouldn't mean sacrificing comfortable seating, beautiful design or the ability to host friends and family.
That's why we develop modular sofas that can adapt to different spaces and needs.
Cassini offers particularly compact configurations.
Gaia brings plush comfort into a relatively space-efficient footprint.
Ciello provides a dedicated chaise for lounging.
Atmosphere allows customers to customise armrests, backrests and overall dimensions.
And Neptune, Orian and Atmosphere Sleeper combine everyday seating with practical guest-sleeping options.
All of them benefit from our modular approach, compact boxed delivery and tool-free assembly.
The best sofa for your apartment is the one that fits your measurements, matches how you like to sit and can evolve as your home changes.
Start with your room dimensions, explore different configurations and choose the comfort that feels right for you.
Because making the most of a smaller space shouldn't require making unnecessary compromises.
